Ultrasound Services
Ultrasound is a safe, painless imaging tool used in both obstetric and gynecologic care. Whether you are confirming a pregnancy, monitoring fetal growth, or evaluating pelvic symptoms, ultrasound provides clear, real-time images that help guide medical decisions. At Complete Care ObGyn, our Henderson OB/GYN office offers convenient in-office ultrasound services so you receive timely results and a clear understanding of your health.
All ultrasounds are performed by experienced technicians and reviewed by your provider to ensure accurate interpretation and personalized follow-up.
What Is an Ultrasound?
An ultrasound, also known as a sonogram, uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of structures inside the body. It does not use radiation and is safe for both pregnant and non-pregnant patients.
Ultrasound is commonly used to:
- Confirm and date a pregnancy
- Monitor fetal development and well-being
- Evaluate pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, or irregular periods
- Identify ovarian cysts, fibroids, or uterine abnormalities
- Guide certain procedures such as IUD placement or biopsies
Types of Ultrasound We Offer
Transabdominal ultrasound: Performed over the abdomen and commonly used during pregnancy or for general pelvic imaging.
Transvaginal ultrasound: Uses a thin probe placed gently in the vagina to provide detailed images, often used in early pregnancy or when closer evaluation is needed.
Obstetric ultrasound: Used throughout pregnancy to assess fetal growth, anatomy, position, and amniotic fluid levels. This includes early dating scans, anatomy scans around 20 weeks, and growth monitoring as part of prenatal care.
Gynecologic ultrasound: Evaluates the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and endometrial lining to help diagnose conditions such as fibroids, ovarian cysts, or endometriosis.
When Is an Ultrasound Recommended?
Your provider may recommend an ultrasound at various stages of care. Common reasons include:
- Confirming early pregnancy and viability
- Tracking fetal growth, movement, and development
- Investigating pelvic pain or abnormal bleeding
- Monitoring known conditions such as fibroids or PCOS
- Evaluating fertility or ovulation timing
- Assessing postmenopausal symptoms
The type of ultrasound recommended depends on your symptoms, medical history, and stage of care.
What to Expect During Your Ultrasound
Ultrasounds are performed in a private exam room and are generally quick and comfortable. Depending on the type of scan:
- You may be asked to arrive with a full bladder for certain pelvic or early pregnancy exams
- A warm gel is applied to the skin or probe to improve image quality
- The exam typically lasts 15 to 30 minutes
- You can return to normal activities immediately afterward
Your provider will review the results with you, explain the findings, and discuss next steps if needed.
